We have had a lot of questions about our Digital Quilt class as people determine what their skill level is and whether or not this class is for them. The basic premise of the class is that by using digital technology you can print your own images on fabric and use your own fabric to make an art quilt. Our promise to you is, if you are a beginner in using digital imaging, that we demystify the technical language and processes so that you can easily print your pictures on fabric to make quilts.
The Digital Boot Camp for Quilters is very intensive and we cover a lot of ground on how to get digital images on to fabric. You do not need prior experience using digital processing software. We can take you from “zero to 60” in two days on how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements to process your digital images for printing on fabric.
HOWEVER, WE CANNOT TEACH YOU HOW TO USE YOUR COMPUTER IN THIS CLASS. The biggest frustration we have seen with our students is trying to figure out how to use their laptop computer to do basic functions. YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO USE THE COMPUTER YOU ARE BRINGING TO THE CLASS.
We understand how difficult it is to travel to a conference and bring a computer with you. For that reason all of our students so far have chosen to bring laptop computers to our classes instead of desktop computers.
Unfortunately, some students did not own a laptop so they borrowed laptops from family or friends. The biggest problem with this is they did not know how to use the laptop they borrowed. In most cases the borrowed laptop was someone’s old machine and by today’s standards it was very slow or on the verge of dying.
Another common problem is that the keyboard and the touchpad on a laptop computer are often very different from the desktop computer they had at home. Using a laptop touchpad is very different from using a mouse.
All of this increases frustration with learning how to process digital images with Photoshop Elements. It slows the learning process for you and the rest of the class.
If you do not know how to use the computer you are bringing to the class then, please, do yourself a favor and switch to another class at the seminar. Like us, the seminar organizers want you to have a great experience and they can usually arrange for you to take another class with one of the many great teachers they bring to the seminar.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OUR CLASS, PLEASE E-MAIL US AT class@thedigitalquilt.com.
Because there is a wide range of technical knowledge we have prepared a fast and easy survey for you to fill out. COMPLETING THE SURVEY IS A REQUIREMENT FOR OUR CLASSES. Click here to fill out the survey.
